Bus

T31 entered service on 31st December 1929 at Nunhead garage on route 621.

By the end of 1931, further allocations were Cricklewood, Tottenham and West Green garages before conversion to a front entrance configuration. Withdrawn originally in July 1948, it was reprieved and returned to service from Kingston, Sidcup and Mortlake and re-engined to diesel in June 1950. It began training duties from Hounslow in July 1952, transferring to Norbiton in November 1955.

Finally withdrawn in June 1956 it was sold in October 1956 and was the last ex-London General Omnibus Company vehicle to be operated by London Transport. Purchased by a group for £45.00, it is accepted to be the first bus to be privately preserved. Due to extensive body deterioration, it was totally rebuilt to original rear entrance specification, concealed interior lighting and petrol engine, which was completed in 1979. Purchased from a Trust member with a 50% grant from the Science Museum 'Prism' fund, the vehicle arrived at Cobham Bus Museum on 18th June, 1994.

Cobham Bus Museum

Where can you find the largest collection of historic London buses in the world? At this unusual museum - where some of the unique exhibits represent the last surviving examples of their kind. The oldest vehicle dates from 1925 and the youngest from 1958, clearly showing the remarkable advances made in just over three decades. The museum building dates back to World War II, and is believed to have been the base from which Barnes Wallis developed his famous 'Bouncing Bomb'.
